The Right Stone,
Chosen for the Space.

Natural stone, porcelain and the new generation of silica-free surfaces — selected, fabricated and finished for one project

Every Slab. Every Surface. Every Application.

Stone is not a product. It is a living material — formed over millennia, unique in every slab, extraordinary in every application.

At ASPEX Stone we work across the full spectrum — natural marble, granite, limestone, travertine and quartzite, porcelain, and the new generation of silica-free mineral surfaces.

Each has its own character, its own strengths and its own place.

Since the engineered stone ban, choosing well matters more than ever. We work only with materials that are safe to fabricate and built to last — and we fabricate every one of them under strict, dust-controlled conditions.

Marble or quartzite? Porcelain or mineral? The right answer depends on how you live, where the surface goes and how it needs to perform for the next twenty years. We start with your space and your brief — then we recommend the material that belongs there. Our advice is based on your project, not our inventory.

Stone is not what we do. It is what we love.

Natural Stone
Every slab is one of a kind.

With marble, granite, quartzite and limestone no two slabs are the same. The veining, movement and colour of the piece you select is the piece that goes into your space. We recommend seeing your stone in person before committing — and we will guide you through the process.

Porcelain & Sintered Stone
Large format.
Worth seeing at scale.

Porcelain and sintered surfaces come in large format slabs — often 1200 x 3200mm and above. Seeing them at full size before you specify makes a significant difference, particularly for seamless splashbacks, outdoor surfaces and feature walls where joins matter.

Mineral Stone
Consistent by design.
Still worth seeing.

Mineral surfaces offer controlled colour and pattern — but range and finish vary by brand. We recommend a consultant-guided viewing before you finalise your selection so you choose with complete confidence.

MARBLE —
Natural Stone

Essence: The timeless luxury stone.

Best for: Statement islands, vanities, fireplaces, splashbacks and feature surfaces where presence matters more than heavy daily punishment.

The character: A natural metamorphic stone, prized for centuries. Soft, warm and unmistakably elegant — think Calacatta, Carrara and Statuario, with their flowing grey and gold veining. No two slabs are alike. Marble develops a gentle patina over time; for the right client, that's not a flaw — it's the point.

What to know: Marble is softer and more porous than the other stones here. It can etch when it meets acids (lemon, wine, some cleaners) and will mark if neglected. It needs sealing and a little care. We'll be honest with you up front about where marble belongs and where a harder stone will serve you better — choosing it for the wrong space is the most common mistake we're asked to fix.

Typical applications: Bathroom vanities, fireplaces, feature walls, low-traffic islands, furniture tops.

QUARTZITE —
Natural Stone

Essence: Marble's look. Granite's strength. All natural.

Best for: Clients who fell in love with the marble look but need it to survive a real kitchen.

The character: A natural metamorphic stone — and not to be confused with the engineered "quartz" benchtops now banned in Australia. Quartzite is 100% natural rock, formed from sandstone under heat and pressure. It carries the flowing veining people adore in marble, with hardness that rivals or exceeds granite. It has quietly become the designer's favourite for good reason.

What to know: Harder and far more etch- and scratch-resistant than marble, while still delivering that luxury vein. Like all natural stone it should be sealed, and it sits at a premium price point. Because it's a natural silica-bearing stone, it must be fabricated under controlled, dust-managed conditions — which is exactly how we handle every slab that comes through our workshop.

Typical applications: Kitchen benchtops and islands, vanities, splashbacks, feature surfaces.

PORCELAIN —
Sintered stone

Essence: The versatile performer. Engineering-grade, indoors and out.

Best for: Splashbacks (seamless from benchtop to wall), outdoor kitchens, BBQ surrounds, busy family homes, and large unbroken surfaces.

The character: Natural minerals and clays fired at extreme temperatures into an ultra-dense slab. Porcelain can convincingly mimic marble, concrete, timber or steel, and comes in large-format slabs — which often means fewer joins, or none. It is one of the most resilient surfaces available.

What to know: Extremely resistant to heat, scratching, staining and UV — so it holds its colour outdoors where other surfaces fade. It's non-porous and needs no sealing; in practice, you wipe it and you're done. Importantly, porcelain and sintered stone are excluded from the engineered stone ban (they contain no resin), making them a safe, future-proof choice. Their thinner profile and hard surface demand genuine fabrication skill — particularly at edges and cut-outs — which is where a boutique fabricator earns its keep.

Typical applications: Splashbacks, outdoor kitchens, BBQ areas, benchtops, flooring, large feature surfaces.

MINERAL —
Silica-free Surfaces

Essence: The modern surface. Engineered safe. Built to last.

Best for: Clients who loved the consistent, controlled look of the old engineered stone benchtops — the clean whites, the subtle marble-looks, the uniform patterns — but want it without the silica risk. The closest thing to what the market lost, done properly.

The character: A new generation of crystalline silica-free mineral surfaces, developed specifically as the safe successor to engineered stone. They deliver the predictable colour, pattern and consistency that made engineered stone so popular across Adelaide kitchens for decades — without the health concern that ended it. Where natural stone is unique and unpredictable, mineral surfaces are controlled and consistent. For clients who want a specific colour matched across multiple spaces, or a uniform look without variation, this is the right material.

What to know: Crystalline silica-free — which directly addresses the safety question behind the 2024 ban. Typically non-porous, low-maintenance and highly durable in daily use. As a newer category, performance varies significantly by brand and product line — which is why the brands you choose and the fabricator behind them both matter. We work with Silestone, Zenith Surfaces by Stone Ambassador and Lavistone — products we have assessed, trust and stand behind. We will tell you exactly which one suits your project and why. Customers can view full slabs of stone at each supplier in Adelaide, book ahead of time with a stone consultant.

Typical applications: Kitchen benchtops, bathroom vanities, laundries, commercial surfaces and high-traffic residential spaces across Adelaide.

GRANITE —
Natural Stone

Essence: The workhorse. Hard, durable, unfazed.

Best for: High-use kitchens, busy households, outdoor benchtops, and anywhere durability is non-negotiable.

The character: A natural igneous stone formed under immense heat and pressure — which is exactly why it shrugs off daily life. Speckled and crystalline rather than veined, granite ranges from understated greys to dramatic exotics. It's one of the hardest surfaces you can put in a kitchen.

What to know: Granite is highly resistant to heat and scratching, and asks very little of you beyond periodic sealing. Its look is more granular than the designer veining of marble or quartzite — though exotic granites can be every bit as striking. If you cook hard and live harder, this is often the smart call.

Typical applications: Kitchen benchtops, outdoor kitchens, high-traffic commercial surfaces, laundries.
